Winter sports region
Heavenly Valley is only one of the many ski-resorts near Lake Tahoe. The others are: Squaw Valley, 7mi/11km northwest of Tahoe City on the CA 89, from the middle of November to April; Alpine Meadows, 6mi/9.5km northwest of Tahoe City on the CA 89, from the middle of November to June; Homewood, 6mi/9.5km south of Tahoe City,
on the CA 89, from November to April; Echo Summit, 8mi/13km west of South Lake Tahoe on the U.S. 50, from mid November to mid April.
Somewhat further away lie Kirkwood, 30mi/48km southwest of South Lake Tahoe on the U.S. 50, CA 89 and CA 88 roads, from November to May and Sierra Ranch, 12mi/19km south of South Lake Tahoe on the CA 89, from November to April. There are further winter-sports centers northwest of Lake Tahoe at Truckee.
