San Fernando Valley Attractions

The San Fernando Valley lies to the north of Los Angeles and is also known as the Valley of the Stars. Burbank, Glendale and Mulholland Drive are within the San Fernando Valley limits. There are numerous attractions such as the Los Angeles Zoo, Autry National Center, Six Flags Magic Mountain as well as theaters and historic sites.
Van Nuys, California
Van Nuys is located in the San Fernando Valley. It was named after one of its early settlers, Isaac Van Nuys. He and Isaac Lankershim founded the San Fernando Farm Homestead Association in 1869, four years before the railroad was built. Van Nuys is famous for Van Nuys Boulevard, a major north-south thoroughfare where teenagers congregated and went "cruising."
Japanese Garden
The Japanese Garden in Van Nuys is located on six and a half acres and features a tea house and paths that allow visitors to enjoy the peace of this delightful spot as well as lakes and waterfalls.
Van Nuys Airport
Van Nuys is the busiest general aviation airport in the world, located in the San Fernando Valley. Each year there are 500,000 takeoffs and landings on average from Van Nuys Airport.
Burbank, California
Burbank (pop. 93,643) is located north of Los Angeles just off the Ventura Freeway. A number of studios including Warner Brothers, Universal, Disney and NBC are located here.Burbank is also the site of Woodbury University which was established in 1884 by F. C. Woodbury.
NBC Studio Tour
The NBC Studio Tour in Burbank offers a 70 minute walking tour of their broadcast complex. The tour features a behind the scene's look at The Tonight Show which is taped on the lot.
Warner Brothers Studios VIP Tour
The Warner Brothers Studio Tour gives visitors a look at the real working studios where films and television shows are produced. Tours take two hours and fifteen minutes.
Bob Hope International Airport
Burbank International Airport is the closest airport to Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles.
Glendale, California
Glendale (pop. 180,038) is located just north of Los Angeles at the east entrance to the San Fernando Valley.
Forest Lawn Memorial Park
Forest Lawn Memorial Park is actually a cemetery, and the final resting place of some of the country's most famous people. The gravestones are purposefully simple but the park is decorated with works of art and memorials.
Alex Theater
The Alex Theater was built in 1925 and remains a landmark of Glendale. The art deco marquee heralds a spacious open-air lobby and 1,450-seat theater. The theater originally showed silent movies and vaudeville entertainment, it now hosts about 250 events each year.
A Noise Within Theater Company
This classical theatre company, A Noise Within, presents productions of Shakespeare, Moliere, Shaw, Chekhov, and a wide variety of classic American playwrights.
Brand Library and Art Center
The Brand Library and Art Center is located in Brand Park in a Moorish-style mansion built in 1904. It features a library of art, music and a gallery.
Glendale Galleria
Glendale Galleria has five department stores including Bloomingdale's, JC Penny and Nordstrom and more than 250 specialty stores and restaurants.
