Coloma, California
Placer CountyLocation and importanceColoma lies on Highway CA 49, between Auburn and Placerville. This little settlement has found a place in California's history for one reason only: here is the actual spot where James W. Marshall (1810-85) found the first gold in the American River in the year 1848.
Marshall Gold Discovery State Park
Today, the whole area in which Marshall, a partner of John A. Sutter, worked has been incorporated into the Marshall Gold Discovery State Park. On a hill stands a statue of Marshall, pointing a finger at the spot where the gold was found.On instructions from Sutter a saw-mill was built there (about 50mi/80km from Fort Sutter in Sacramento), a reproduction of which stands in State Park. Some of the older houses have been preserved, and a museum in the State Park Building displays artifacts of the great gold rush.
American River Conservancy
The American River Conservancy is committed to protecting and enhancing natural habitats. The Nature Center houses the Conservancy offices and allows visitors to explore the natural world.

Lodi, California
In Lodi, some 7mi/12km north of Stockton on the Joaquin River, can be found the San Joaquin Historical Museum, where a number of historic houses display a variety of items which document the county's agriculture and customs.
Great Valley Serpentarium
The Serpentarium is a living snake and reptile museum with various exotic snakes, lizards, tortoises, frogs and arachnids in natural habitat exhibits. There are over 1,000 reptiles on display, and in the nursery and breeding rooms.
Micke Grove Regional Park
There are a zoo, amusement rides and an authentic Japanese Garden at Micke Grove Regional Park. The garden features ginkgo trees, Japanese Maples and bamboo along a nice walkway.
San Joaquin County Historical Museum
The San Joaquin County Historical Museum has artifacts from the history of the region including agricultural and American Indian exhibits. The Sunshine Trail exhibit recreates a trip across California from west to east.
Roseville - Carnegie Museum
The Carnegie Library, Roseville's first permanent library, was constructed in 1912 with Lincoln-made brick and terra cotta. It is now home to the Roseville Historical Society.

Marysville is a town from the early 1900s, named after a prosperous merchant. A jogging course encircles the lake.
Mary Aaron Museum
The Mary Aaron Museum in Marysville is located in a Victorian house that was built in 1856 and has been restored to its former splendor. The home was designed by one of Marysville's early principal architects, Warren P. Miller.

At McClellan Air Force Base there is an aviation museum with 31 restored vintage aircraft.
