Oxnard Tourist Attractions

Ventura County
Location and origin
Oxnard, on the CA 1 southwest of its junction with the U.S. 101, first came into being towards the end of the 19th century, but developed quickly, thanks to its agricultural hinterland and two fleet installations to the south, Port Hueneme and Point Mugu. It owes its name to the owner of a sugar-beet refinery, one of the first pioneers to come here. From Channel Islands Harbor, at the end of Peninsula Road near Channel Islands Boulevard, there are direct connections to Channel Islands National Park, the offices of which, however, are to be found in Ventura. From Oxnard it is only 11mi/17km to the nearest island, Anacapa.

Ventura County Maritime Museum

The Ventura County Maritime Museum in Oxnard has one of the two largest collections of antique Prisoner of War sailing ship models in the United States. Other highlights include information on local maritime history, whaling and whales, local Native Americans - the Chumash people, as well as navigation instruments.
