Oxnard Tourist Attractions
Ventura CountyLocation and originOxnard, on the CA 1 southwest of its junction with the U.S. 101, first came into being towards the end of the 19th century, but developed quickly, thanks to its agricultural hinterland and two fleet installations to the south, Port Hueneme and Point Mugu. It owes its name to the owner of a sugar-beet refinery, one of the first pioneers to come here. From Channel Islands Harbor, at the end of Peninsula Road near Channel Islands Boulevard, there are direct connections to Channel Islands National Park, the offices of which, however, are to be found in Ventura. From Oxnard it is only 11mi/17km to the nearest island, Anacapa.
