Hanford (pop. 30,897) is located 30mi/48km south of Fresno in the San Joaquin Valley. The town was founded in 1882 and once claimed one of California's largest Chinese communities.
The oldest buildings in Hanford are located in Courthouse Square. The original courthouse was built in 1897 in neoclassical style. Beside the courthouse is the former county jail and the sheriff's office.
The Hanford Carnegie Museum is an historical museum located in a Romanesque library with displays of furniture and photos outlining the history of the area.
The Fox Theatre in Hanford was built in 1929 by the William Fox Company. The setting of the Hanford theater was a Spanish courtyard at night. It had twinkling stars and a crescent moon on the ceiling.

In Hanford, visitors won't want to miss China Alley an historic area which was once a community of Chinese railroad workers. The 1893 Taoist Temple is open to visitors by reservation.
