The first outpost of the North West Mounted Police, Fort Calgary was set up in 1875 at the confluence of the Elbow and Bow Rivers. The foundations of the original fort can still be seen. The history of the city of Calgary is illustrated in the on site Calgary Fort Museum.
On the other side of the bridge stands Deane House, built in 1906 for the commandant of the outpost, which is now a tea-room.
Also on site is the Fort Calgary General Store which sells gifts and RCMP collectibles.
Space at this facility is also available for rent.
