Bilbilis

3km/2mi northeast of Calatayud, on the left bank of the Río Jalón, are the remains of Bilbilis, a Celtiberian foundation which was taken over by the Romans. It was the birthplace of the satirical poet and epigrammatist Martial (A.D. 40-100). Only a few fragments of buildings remain.
