Cabano, the center of the timber industry, lies in the far south of Québec Province near its border with New Brunswick and the U.S. state of Maine on the TransCanada Highway.
Situated in some most charming countryside nearby is Lake Témiscouta, once an important staging-post in the transport of timber between the St Lawrence and the St John
River catchment area.
In the past, especially in the 19th c., there were constant disputes between the owners of land belonging to Québec and New Brunswick on the one hand and their U.S. neighbors on the other.
