Budapest - Surroundings

Situated 16km (10mi.) northeast of the city center, near Mogyoród, the Hungaroring motor racing circuit was opened in 1986. In August every year important Formula I races are held here. In addition, highly-rated motor cycle and trucking competitions take place, such as the "Truck Trophy".

Technical details: total length 4014m (13170ft), maximum gradient 7 per cent, longest straight 700m (2298ft). There are 25,000 seats and 150,000 standing places for spectators.

Railway Memorial Park has over 100 museum piece trains displayed as well as an exhibit on the history of the Hungarian railway.

Until the recent political changes in Hungary, the gigantic monuments collected in this park used to ornament the parks and squares of Budapest. The statues of Lenin, Marx and Engels, Dimitrov and Ostapenko can be seen at the park, and memorials to The Soviet Soldier, the Communist Martyrs, and the Republic of Councils.
