Budapest - Gentlemen's Street Uri Utca

Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque architecture are features of Uri utca. The fine vaulting and the sedilia in the entrance of No. 40 are impressive. From No. 9 Gentlemen's Street there is access to the vast system of caves and underground passages which were dug in the castle hill in days gone by. This subterranean network covers about 24km (15mi.) in all.

The German army was able to hold out here for a long time towards the end of the Second World War. A waxworks (panopticum) has been installed in part of the cave-system, portraying important events in Hungarian history.
