On Praça Tiradentes are the 19th century church of Santo Antônio and, housed in another 19th century building, the Casarão Cultural Center, with a theatre and rooms for exhibitions and other events.
In the center of the town is the Lago de Paulino; in the lake is a small island, and round its shores are various sports facilities. In the Boa Vista district is the Lago da Boa Vista.
3km/2mi from the town is the Gruta Rei do Mato ("King of the Wood's Cave"), the only cave in Brazil in which stalactites and stalagmites have joined up to form columns. It consists of several chambers with rock paintings; particularly impressive is the Salão do Ritual da Fertilidade (Hall of the Fertility Ritual), in which a couple are depicted in the sex act. The cave also contains a lake.
4km/2.5mi outside the town in the Serra Santa Helena is the 200 hectare/500 acre Parque da Cascata, with a waterfall, areas of woodland and an artificial lake.
