Juiz de Fora

278km/173mi south of Belo Horizonte and 185km/115mi north of Rio de Janeiro is Juiz de Fora (pop. 420,000), the largest city in the forest region of Minas Gerais. Among its attractions are the Parque Mariano Procópio (lake; orchid garden) and two museums, the Museu Rodoviário (Bus Museum) and the Museu do Núcleo Histórico Ferroviário (Railway Museum), illustrating the importance which connections between Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte had - and still have - for the economic development of the region.
