The most popular beach is the Praia Grande or do Tombo. To the north are the beaches of Suarão (3km/22mi), Campos Eliseos (5km/32mi) and Verde Mar (7km/41/4mi). The beaches to the south have some special attractions. At the Praia do Sonho (1km/.7mi from Itanhaém) is the Cama de Anchieta ("Anchieta's Couch"), a rock on which Padre Anchieta, the founder of São Paulo, is said to have rested and meditated. Almost 2km/1.3mi farther on, near Praia Cibratel I, is the grotto of Nossa Senhora de Lourdes. Beyond this are the beaches, much favored by water sports enthusiasts, of Cibratel II (4.4km/32mi) and Gaivota (15km/92mi), with small fishing villages.

On the hill of Itaguaçu is the half-ruined Franciscan friary of Nossa Senhora da Conceição. The chapel dates from 1554; the Mannerist-style conventual buildings were added between 1699 and 1713. The buildings were restored after a fire in the 19th century.
