N.S. do Rosário

The church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Rua do Bonfim dates from 1750-68.

The Museu Regional, in a mansion which belonged to the Baron of Catas Altas (Rua Israel Pinheiro), displays folk art of the gold-digging period.

São Francisco de Assis

In Rua São Francisco are the Chafariz da Cadeia Velha (Fountain of the Old Prison; 1800) and the 18th century church of São Francisco de Assis.

Piedade

On the Pico da Piedade (1783m/5850ft), 17km/10.5mi from Caeté, is the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade (1768-1804). Nearby is the Observatory of Minas Gerais University.

N.S. de Nazaré

In Rio Vermelho, 9km/5.6mi from Caeté, is the 18th century church of Nossa Senhora de Nazaré. This little town was the scene of a battle in the War of the Emboabas (1708-09) between the bandeirantes of São Paulo and Portuguese and other adventurers heading into the mining region from other parts of Brazil. (Emboabas was the name given to those from outside São Paulo who moved into Minas Gerais during the gold rush of the early 18th century.)
