Bento Goncalves Attractions
Bento Gonçalves
Bento Gonçalves lies in the Serra Gaúcha 111km/69mi north of Porto Alegre. The town developed out of the Colìnia Dona Isabel founded in 1870 by the imperial government and populated by Italian immigrants, who introduced wheat-growing - still an important element in the economy of the region. A festival is held in Bento Gonçalves in March in alternate years, bearing witness to the customs and the hospitality of the original settlers.
