Amazonas State

Amazonas in the most northerly state in Brazil and also, with its area of over 1.5 million sq.km/0.6 million sq.mi, the largest, though with the lowest population density. It is bordered on the east by Pará state and on the west by Colombia and Peru. Its most important economic center is the river port of Manaus, its capital, where, to promote the development of the economy, a free trade zone has been established.
