Brandenburg - Lehnin Abbey

Lehnin Abbey was the first Cistercian house in Brandenburg, founded in 1180 by Margrave Otto I. The church, an Early Gothic basilica dedicated to the Virgin, begun in 1190 and consecrated in 1262, is one of the earliest and most important examples of North German brick-built architecture. Of the conventual buildings there remain the monks' cells, the royal lodgings, the granary, the falconer's house and the abbey walls, with a triple-arched gatehouse.
