Yedigöller Milli Parki

The 2,019ha/5,000 acre "Seven Lakes National Park" is located about 45km/28mi northeast of Bolu amidst the lonely forests of the Bolu Daglari. The lakes, three of which dry out in summer, split into two groups on two different levels (780m/2,560ft and 880m/2,888ft respectively). All have been formed naturally by landslips damming the deep valleys with their steep, easily eroded sides.

Must-see attractions nearby:
Surrounded by the native mixed woodland of this valley area, the lakes are reached via forest road from Bolu or Mengen.

Büyük Göl, at 22.5ha/55 acres the biggest of the lakes (maximum depth 15m/49ft) lies together with two smaller ones on the lower level. Of those higher up, Nazli Göl (16.6ha/41 acres) is the largest. A 26ha/64 acre deer park has been established, principally to protect the now almost extinct maral but also as an added attraction for the mainly Turkish visitors. The lakes are stocked with trout. The dense, natural mixed forest of Cilician fir, Asian beech, oak, rhododendron, fern and wild hemp harbors a variety of flora and fauna typical of the Black Sea region.
