Mt Parnassus Parnassós
Mt Parnassus, a limestone massif near Delphi rising to a height of 2,457m/8,061ft, was sacred to Apollo and Dionysos, and in Roman times was regarded as the home of the Muses. The area, with extensive coniferous forests, is still largely rugged and inhospitable. From the village of Arákhova an asphalted road winds its way up into the hills. At the end of the road is a chair-lift to a mountain hut at 1,900m/6,235ft, from which there is a further lift to the skiing area below the summit plateau.
