There was a nature reserve in this area from 1890; the present national park was established in 1968, taking in the southern part of Blue Mountains National Park. There are fine views of the Blue Mountains from Kanangra Walls. There are impressive waterfalls plunging down from the main plateau into the Grand Kanangra Gorge. There are limestone caves, still unexplored.
