Betanzos - San Francisco

The monastic church of San Francisco, built at the end of the 14th century at the behest of Count Fernán Pérez de Andrade, is one of the finest Gothic churches in Galicia, with large windows in its three apses and rich sculptural decoration on its doorways. It also contains fine sculpture and tombs, notably that of Count Pérez de Andrade (1387): the count is depicted, with his hunting dogs at his feet, lying on his sarcophagus, which is decorated with reliefs of hunting scenes and supported by a wild boar and a bear.
