Berlin - Kreuzberg Ward

Kreuzberg continues to be one of Berlin's problem areas. A high proportion of foreigners with resulting racial enmity, land speculation, squatting and hooliganism are all often linked to Kreuzberg. Efforts are being made to preserve its character and improve its housing and hygienic standards without destroying that character or displacing the resident population; however, the conflicts remain as real as before.

Must-see attractions nearby:
The Kreuzberg ward was formed in 1920 from south Friedrichstadt and Luisenstadt together with the suburb of Tempelhof. Characteristic of Kreuzberg are the U-Bahn line running high above ground and the Landwehr Canal, both ofmwhich cut right through it from east to west and dominate the whole scene. Places worth visiting in Kreuzberg include the Museum of Transport and Technology (Museum für Verkehr und Technik), the Gropiusbau, the churchyard in front of the Hallesches Tor, the Berlin Museum and the Hasenheide Public Park.
