Description
Karlshorst is a part of the urban area of the Lichtenberg district of Berlin. Its name comes from that of an outlying estate laid out in 1828-29. In 1893 a race course for horses was established here, and this is now used for trotting races.

In 1945 the headquarters of the Russian General Zukow were in Fritz-Schmenkel-Strasse, and it was there that the unconditional surrender of the German army was signed. The house is now a Red Army military and memorial museum and its fourteen rooms contain some 15,000 documents.
