Description
In the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin, on the northwest side between Greifswalder Strasse and Schönhauser Allee, on 24 hectares/60 acres of land which belonged to the now defunct city gasworks, lies Ernst-Thälmann-Park. This modern parkland and residential area was developed between 1983-85. The impressive bronze memorial to the Communist politician Ernst Thälmann, who was murdered by the Nazis in Buchenwald concentration camp in 1944, was sculpted by the Russian Lew Curbel. The Zeiss Giant Planetarium on the northern edge of Ernst-Thälmann-Park provides interesting demonstrations relating to astronomy (laser-shows, lectures, exhibitions).
