Fort George District - Baron Bliss Tomb & Fort George Lighthouse
The Fort George Lighthouse was once a fort and separated from the rest of Belize City by a creek. The Baron Bliss Tomb and memorial is adjacent to the lighthouse. Henry Edward Ernest Victor Bliss was a wealthy British Baron who left a large trust fund for the people of Belize.
The Baron spent his last days aboard his yacht and was impressed by the hospitality of the Belizean people. His trust fund has allowed for the development of conservation efforts and cultural programs. A small park is also found here offering attractive sea views and a children's playground.
