About 11km/7mi south of Oudenaarde on the linguistic border is the town of Ronse (French Renaix) where a lively carnival "Bummelfeesten" takes place. There is also an interesting local museum in the former house of the chief provost with a historical department and an exhibition concerning the history of textile production in Ronse, as well as the Art-Nouveau house "La Bruyère" built by Victor Horta.
On the first Sunday after Whitsun the "Fiertelommegan" procession is held. In the procession the relics of St Hermes, a Roman martyr, are carried through the surrounding villages near Ronse. They are kept in the Collegiate Church of Sint-Hermes which primarily dates from the 15th and 16th C. and has a notable large crypt.
A few kilometers west of Ronse rises the 141m/463ft high Kluisberg on the border between Hainaut and East Flanders and therefore on the linguistic border. The viewing tower of the Hotond Mill, 150m/492ft high, is the highest point in East Flanders with an extensive panorama of the region.
