Marchienne-au-Pont Attractions
Marchienne-au-Pont is a western suburb of Charleroi.
The town is crossed by two rivers making it a major industrial centre. There are a few attractions such as the Chateau de Cartier, a pool, a sports complex and the old ramparts.
Marchienne-au-Pont's 17th C. château was the family seat of the writer Marguerite Yourcenar.
In Marchienne-au-Pont (Place des Martyrs) the Musée d'Histoire, de Folklore et d'Archéologie Industrielle (Museum of Local History and Industrial Archaeology) traces the history of industrial development in and around Charleroi.
In the western suburb of Marchienne-au-Pont, part of an old ironworks (134, Rue de la Providence) has been converted into the Musée de l'Industrie. Sections of an old rolling mill, forges, a machine workshop and a print-works are among the many intriguing exhibits.
