Heart of the Ardennes Attractions Houffalize

A detour leads east from Nadrin for 12km/7.5miles to Houffalize on the east Ourthe, a pretty summer resort known as the "Heart of the Ardennes".

Shortly before reaching the village the road passes under the motor way viaduct over the Ourthe which is 65m/213ft high and 369m/1,211ft long and is the largest in Belgium.
Houffalize - Museums
Houffalize possesses two museums: the town museum with a "Paul Verheggen" department concerned with the flora and fauna of the Ardennes and an archaeological section, and the museum of country life "Li Vi Forni".

Houffalize - Place Albert
In 1944 the little town was completely laid waste in ashes and rubble by Allied aircraft who stopped a German armored advance here. In the Place Albert can be seen a memento of this event - a German Panther tank which was left behind.

Petites Tailles
A diversion north from Houffalize reaches in 15km/9.5miles a marshy plateau, the Petites Tailles, where the landscape anticipates that of the Hohe Venn which adjoins it to the north.
