Genk Attractions
The industrial town of Genk lies on the edge of the Kempenland coal mine 12km/8miles northeast of Hasselt.
Genk is noted for old coalmines of Zwartberg, Waterschei and Winterslag, some of the buildings can be visited. There is also a nature reserve, "De Maten", and Sundial Park.

Europlanetarium
The Planetarium is a part of the Public Observatory of Limburg. It has a 40 ft (12.5 m) dome and seats 90 people. Presentations on the ceiling recreate astronomical conditions.

Situated 6km/4miles north of Genk, the largest zoo in the province of Limburg is laid out on the site of the old coal mine Zwartberg. It has a remarkable bear collection.
