Narawntapu (Asbestos Range) National Park
The Narawntapu (formerly Asbestos Range) National Park lies on the coast to the west of the natural harbor of Port Dalrymple, between Port Sorell and Greens Beach. Inland from the coast is an unspoiled tract of country which offers good walking. The park has a very varied pattern of coastal, dune and heath vegetation and a rich wildlife (including wombats, opossums, wallabies and Forester kangaroos, which became extinct in the wild in the 19th C but were successfully bred in captivity and reintroduced). Bakers Beach is popular with water sports enthusiasts, though there is a dangerous current at its western end. Inland from the beach is a freshwater lagoon on which many water birds can be observed.
