Description
(Local Name: Natur und Völkerkundemuseum) In Basle's Augustinergasse, which runs northwest from the Münsterplatz, is a Neo-classical building (left) by Melchior Berri 1844-1849 which houses the Museum of Natural History and Ethnography (Natur- und Völkerkundemuseum). The Natural History Museum, situated at the front of the building, contains a display cabinet from the 18th C. At the rear is the Museum of Ethnography with exhibits from Melanesia and Oceania; the collections are the result of the museum's own expeditions.
