Traditional Fairs

(Local Name: Panayir) Balikesir province and immediately adjoining areas are now virtually the only part of Turkey where traditional panayir (fairs) still take place - of great interest from a socio-historical point of view. Dates on which fairs are held in the Balikesir area include:

April 24th-26th Kepsut, 27th-29th Balya;

June 21st-23rd Balya-Ilica;

August seventh-14th Dursunbey; 16th-20th Kepsut;

September 10th-13th Bigadiç, 17th-20th Savastepe, 20th-22nd Balya, 25th-27th Ivrindi.
