Baeza - Cathedral

On the south side of the Plaza Santa María stands Baeza's Gothic Cathedral of Santa María, originally built on the foundations of a mosque and rebuilt between 1567 and 1593. The Puerta de la Luna is in Moorish style; the Puerta del Perdón, spanning a street, is Gothic. Notable features of the interior (designed by Andrés de Vandelvira) are the Capilla Mayor, with stellar vaulting, and the Capilla del Sagrario, which has a richly decorated choir screen by Bartolomé de Jaén. The six-sided wrought-iron pulpit dates from 1580. The cloister still preserves a few arches from the former mosque. Facing the Cathedral is the doorway of the Seminary of San Felipe Neri.
