Ayacucho - Museo de Arte Popular

The Museo de Arte Popular offers a wonderful show of local and regional art. Displays include tapestries, silver work, carvings in wood and stone, and pottery by local artists. Of particular interest are "retablos", colorful wooden boxes in a variety of sizes.

There is also a collection of photographs showing the progression and development of Ayacucho.

The Museo de Arte Popular is located on the north side of the Plaza de Armas and is housed in the colonial mansion of Casa Chacón.
