St Michael Attractions
St Michael (1,068m/3,504ft; pop. 2,400), on the road to the Katschberg pass, is a health and winter sports resort, with a Gothic parish church (13th and 14th C. frescos and Roman gravestone). By the wall of the cemetery of the Gothic church of St Giles (the charnel house of which has been made into a chapel) is the oldest Christian gravestone in the Salzburg province.
Katschberghöhe
The pass road over the Katschberghöhe (1,641m/5,384ft), once feared because of its gradient of up to 29%/1 in 3.5; (still 16%/1 in 6 for a short distance following realignment), is used less now since the motorway tunnel was completed. The heights, covered in snow all the year round, are served by lifts and downhill slopes. On foot it is about one hour westward to the Kareckhaus (1,844m/6,052ft).
