Niedere Tauern Attractions

The Hohe Tauern range is continued, east of the Murtörl (source of the River Mur), by the Niedere Tauern, with the Enns, Palten and Liesing valleys to the north and the Mur valley to the south. Many densely wooded and thinly populated valleys cut into the range on either side, but there are few low passes between the two sides. Many small mountain lakes lie hidden in the high valleys and hollows. The higher peaks in the main range are not easy to climb, usually requiring good rock climbing experience, but there are also many easier peaks commanding magnificent views. The Niedere Tauern also offer some of the most varied skiing terrain in Salzburg and Styria.
