Neusiedl am See Attractions
Above the northern end of the Neusiedler See lies the little town of Neusiedl (133m/436ft; pop. 4,000). A causeway 1.5km/1mi long runs through the belt of reeds to the bathing and other facilities on the open water (swimming pool, motorboat landing stage, sailing and surfing school, yachting school).
The little town (only an hour's bus ride away from Vienna) has an interesting Gothic parish church with a Baroque "ship" pulpit of 1780. Above the town stands a massive medieval tower. A junk market is held on the first Monday morning each month in Kalvarienbergstrasse. The modern indoor swimming pool is very popular.

Bruck an der Leitha, Austria

12km/7.5mi north of Neusiedl lies the old town of Bruck an der Leitha (180m/590ft; pop. 7,000), at the passage of the Leitha through the chain of hills between Burgenland and the Vienna basin. Parts of the town walls have been preserved. Schloss Prugg, originally a moated castle, dates in its present form from the 18th and 19th century; it has a beautiful park. The parish church in the main square was built between 1696 and 1740.

About 23km/14mi west of Neusiedl brings you to Mannersdorf (216m/709ft), which in the mid 18th century was a fashionable spa with a sulfur spring. The magnificent Baroque castle was built for the Empress Maria Theresa in 1754-55.
