Southwest of Dornbirn lies the popular summer resort of Hohenems (432m/1,417ft; pop. 13,500). Every year in June a "Schubertiade" is held here, which, as the name suggests, concentrates on works by the famous composer Franz Schubert.
The museum covers the times of the existence of the 'Schutzjuden' ('chartered Jews') in the 17th century through to religious life in the synagogue and everyday life.

Hohenems boasts an attractive Neo-Classical parish church (1797) of St Karl Borromäus, decorated with frescos by Andreas Brugger and with a Renaissance high altar.
This annual two-week festival runs from mid-June to early July and includes concerts by major symphonies and chamber orchestras, as well as internationally-acclaimed choirs. The events take place in the palace courtyard and Knight's Hall of the Renaissance palace at Hohenems. There are over 30 performances every year.
