Galtur Attractions

At the end of the Silvretta Road, in the upper Paznaun valley, lies Galtür (1,584m/5,197ft; pop. 700), a winter sports resort noted for its excellent snow accumulation and numerous lifts. Note the fine Baroque church (17th-18th C.) with a Gothic Madonna and Roccoco altars. A road proceeds southward for 5km/3mi through the Jamtal to the Scheibenalm (1,833m/6,014ft), from which it is a two hours' climb to the Jamtalhütte (2,165m/7,103ft; accommodation), magnificently situated below the Jamtalferner (glacier). To the east of the hut towers the Fluchthorn (3,399m/11,152ft), the second highest peak in the Silvretta group.
Skiing
If you are looking for short or non-existent lift lines, the Silvretta range surrounding the village of Galtür may be for you. More than 40 km of groomed slopes and excellent off-piste skiing mean there is a challenge for all levels of skier. The scenic village is centered around a late-Baroque parish church but offers the modern amenities of an ice rink and well-equipped sports center complete with indoor tennis.
