Achenkirch Attractions

The Achensee road leads from the eastern bank of the lake to the north; it is an impressive stretch of road, with tunnels and views of the lake. On the other bank the Seekarspitze (2,053m/6,770ft) sweeps down to the water's edge. At the northern end of the lake straggles the village of Achenkirch (930m/3,060ft), with its parish church built in 1748 and a local museum (in the Sixenhof). The numerous leisure facilities include a summer toboggan run. On the eastern side of the valley are a number of slopes which are snow-covered in winter and suitable for skiing. During the summer season folk music and local concerts are held in Achenkirch. In another 9km/6mi north, just before the Achen Pass (941m/3,087ft), the road reaches the German frontier.
The Achenkirche village neighbours a large nature reserve which is ideal for hiking and nature walks.
Mountain Hikes
Achenkirch - situated as it is between the lake and the Achen Pass and with two chair-lifts - is the starting-point for climbs on the Adlerhorst (1,230m/4,050ft) and the Hinternutz (2,007m/6,585ft). From a point half-way between the village and the lake there is a beautiful view of an isolated chapel and the mountains around the lake.
