Northern Queensland Attractions

Northern Queensland, with Townsville as its center, extends from Proserpine in the south to beyond Cardwell in the north. From Townsville there are road and rail links with the hinterland by way of Charters Towers, extending far west to the mining town of Mount Isa in the outback.

Gloucester Island, Middle Island and the Whitsunday Islands, with Hamilton as the chief tourist center, are easily reached from Shute Harbor. Magnetic Island is within easy reach of Townsville. Orpheus Island and Hinchinbrook Island, a large tropical island which has been declared a national park, lie north of Townsville off Ingham and Cardwell. Then between Cardwell and Tully are Dunk Island, Brook Island, Family Island and Goold Island.
