Manjimup Attractions
Manjimup (pop. 3960) is surrounded by fertile grazing and arable land (fruit, vegetables, dairy and beef cattle, sheep) and majestic karri and jarrah forests. Some of the trees, up to 70m high, are over 400 years old.
The first settlers came to the area in the mid 19th C., and since then the basis of the town's economy has been the timber industry. The hard wood of the jarrah tree makes excellent building timber, and the town soon began to export it.
The Timber Museum in Giblett Street traces the development of the timber industry from its earliest days to the modern wood-chip mills. Many of the mills can be visited.
