The best-known attraction of Kiama (pop. 10,960), founded around 1830 in a dairy farming region, is the Blowhole, discovered by George Bass in 1797, which spouts water to a height of 60 m and is floodlit in the evening. There is also a Little Blowhole. At Jones Beach are the striking Cathedral Rocks. Good beaches for water sports and fishing.
Kiama has some fine old 19th C houses (eg. the Coach-House Gallery of 1858 and the Terrace), built in 1885 to house workers but now occupied by shops and small restaurants.
