Huon Valley, D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island Attractions
The Huon, Channel, and Bruny region features a variety of attractions.
Cygnet, Australia
Cygnet (pop. 830) is the center of a large fruit-growing district. It was originally named Port de Cygne by the French admiral Bruny d'Entrecasteaux because of the number of swans in the bay. It is now a popular holiday resort, with beautiful beaches.
Geeveston, Australia
Geeveston (pop. 750) is an important timber town with a large paper mill. The timber comes from the hardwood forests in the Arve and Weld valleys to the west of the town, with trees up to 87m high. Geeveston is a good base for excursions to Hartz Mountains National Park. A 23km long track leads to Waratah Lookout.
There are boat trips on the Huon River and the nearby D'Entrecasteaux Channel.

Huonville, Australia
Huonville (pop. 1300) is the commercial center of the Huon valley, a large fruit-growing area (mainly apples). In early colonial days the settlers felled great quantities of the slow-growing Huon pine, whose fine wood was then much in demand. The beautiful country round Huonville, with the little townships of Ranelagh (Motor Museum), Grove (Apple Museum) and Glen Huon, is a favorite recreation area with the people of Hobart.
