Glenelg Attractions
The popular bathing resort of Glenelg is in the sheltered (and surf-free) Gulf of St Vincent. The quickest way to reach it is on the Anzac Highway or in Adelaide the old-style trams (one has been refurbished as a restaurant) which leave from Victoria Square. The first group of free settlers disembarked from HMS Buffalo here, in Holdfast Bay, and Captain Hindmarsh took possession of the territory in the name of the British Crown.
There is a replica of the Buffalo in Patawalonga Marina (Adelphi Terrace, North Glenelg).
In Mosely Square is the Town Hall (1875). The latest attraction is The Beachouse, an amusement complex with a giant waterslide and a variety of other entertainments.
North of Glenelg, on the Military Road (West Beach), is Marineland, with a large aquarium and displays by performing dolphins and seals.
