The little town of Corryong (pop. 1270) is a good base from which to visit Burrowa-Pine Mountain National Park and the Snowy Mountains (Jindabyne, NSW). It lies in a region of magnificent mountain scenery, with good trout streams. Jack Riley, the hero of 'Banjo' Paterson's story The Man from Snowy River, came from this area, was a friend of Paterson's and is buried in Corryong.
There is a good viewpoint 1km southeast of the town. From a viewpoint at Towong, 12km northeast, there are magnificent views extending as far as Kosciusko National Park (NSW).
