Capricorn Islands Attractions
The Capricorn Islands are an attractive group lying on the Tropic of Capricorn in the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef, north of the Bunker Islands. The best known of the islands, and the one best equipped to cater for visitors, is Heron Island.
Masthead, Erskine, Wilson, Wreck, North West and Tryon Islands are wildlife reserves. Day visits and camping are permitted, subject to some restrictions, and visitors must have regard to the function of the islands as nesting grounds for sea birds. There are boat trips to the coral islands and the reef from Rosslyn Bay/Yeppoon (Capricorn Reefseeker), and from Great Keppel Island.
