Athens - Olympic Sports Complex

Athens also had high hopes of being chosen as the venue for the 1996 Olympic Games, but lost out to Atlanta in Georgia, USA. An application was also submitted to host the Games in the year 2000.
Athens won the bid to host the 2004 Olympic games which was held there in August of 2004.
