National Gallery / Alexandros Soutsos Museum Description
The National Gallery (Alexandros Soutsos Museum) is housed in a new building in Leofóros Vasiléos Konstantinou. On the ground floor are icons and pictures by Greek painters of the 19th and 20th C. (historical and genre pictures, seascapes, portraits). On the upper floor are pictures by European painters, including Caravaggio, Tiepolo, Rembrandt, Breughel and Jordaens, and among the moderns Picasso, Braque and others. Works by the Cretan-born El Greco occupy a place of honor.
