(Local Name: Schloss Johannisburg) The Schloss Johannisburg (1605-14) in Aschaffenburg is a palace in late Renaissance style which was a subsidiary residence, after Mainz itself, of the Electors of Mainz. It now houses the State Art Gallery (Dutch and early German painting), the Palace Museum and the Palace Library. It contains several magnificent state apartments.
